I Survived Combat, Why Would I Need a Life Coach?
Some of the greatest sports figures of our times understand the concept of coaching – Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Gabby Douglas and Michael Phelps all knew they needed an exceptional coach to help make them an exceptional athlete. The same concept applies to life. Who better to help you successfully transition from military life to civilian life than someone who has also made the journey?
What is Life Coaching?
Life coaching is the act of empowerment. A life coach will help you leverage your talents and gifts, and unlock the skills you already possess to live the life you desire once your military uniform comes off for the last time.
I believe if you have the skills to survive a career in the military, then you already possess the skills necessary to survive life after the military. A coach helps promote self-awareness, guides you towards your goals and motivates you to succeed. Most importantly a coach holds you accountable for your own success.
I Survived Combat, Why Do I Need A Life Coach in Transition?
After 22 years of military service, several deployments to combat zones, and years of military training I knew it was time to retire. I like many before me, went into transition with a “Can Do!” attitude, only to find out that it was going to take a little more than the right attitude to maneuver the battlefield of transitioning.
You may be experiencing challenges where you realize you need a little help. You may have challenges with processing your emotions, communicating with loved ones or your doctors, or filling that void in your life that appeared when you left the military. This is a normal reaction to a significant life event such as transitioning from the military to civilian life.
Help is available from someone who has been in your boots. I’m not a counselor looking to diagnose your mental
health symptoms, but I will recommend mental health treatment if we assess it is necessary for your overall progress. The truth is, I am just a caring Soldier for Life who shares similar experiences with regard to transition challenges.
