I woke up this morning thinking about leadership and leaders. I began to think about the great leaders I’ve served with over my 22 year career in the Army. Many came to mind as I remembered through the years. Some were very influential in my life and throughout my career, and very successful in their own right.
Leadership is defined as the act of guiding, directing, or motivating a group or organization to take action. We would all agree there are and have been some great leaders to come out of the military throughout our country’s history. But who would you define as the ‘Greatest’ leader to lead?
Think about. It’s a tough question and even tougher to come up with an answer. I thought of the perfect answer this morning.
Moms are the GREATEST leaders to lead!
Think about it. Most often when we think of a leader in the family unit, we automatically think of the father and biblically that is indeed correct. But when you look at the definition of leadership and look at the role of the mother in the family, you can’t help but conclude Mom is unquestionably the greatest leader of all time!
Let’s take a look.
As wife – she encourages, supports, and motivates her husband and father of the children to be the very best he can be as provider of the family. Every month he trusts her with his money, time, and heart. They are a team and she has a vested interest in seeing him succeed and does everything in her power to help him achieve success. And as a result he holds her opinions in high regards and seeks to please her.
As mother – she is the example for her daughters and the first love of her sons. She is the example of what and how a woman should act, carry herself, and behave for her children. Not only that, she praises them, disciplines them, and is an advocate for them. She will go to bat for her children and fight for justice by any means necessary if they are wronged. As a result they love her unconditionally, value her opinion and seek her approval.
Ok, Mom is not leading armies to war, that is true. She’s too busy raising and instilling confidence in the men and women who are leading armies to war, leading major corporations, and doing BIG things in life making history. She should be celebrated and viewed among the great leaders we value as intricate parts of our country’s history. I know it’s not Mother’s Day but celebrate Mom anyway and thank her for her leadership example in your life today.
